OpenOcean Monthly Digest: A Summer of fun in August

It’s peak summer once again and with the sun brings the fun and there certainly hasn’t been a shortage of either! August is usually one of the slower months of the year, people go on holiday, companies look to dwindling staff members to pick-up the slack and the preparations for school and work life begin as September starts. We’ve seen no slowdown here, with August being one of the busiest months to date! Let’s dive in 🌊

Major highlights of the month

2023 definitely seems to be the year people look outwards at different scaling solutions for Ethereum. Solutions have typically revolved around zero-knowledge rollups or optimistic scaling solutions. In August, OpenOcean launched support for several new high-profile networks adding support for BASE, by Coinbase, Starknet by Starkware Labs and Scroll by Ye Zhang and Sandy Peng.

BASE by Coinbase is the new popular scaling solution for Ethereum by crypto giants Coinbase. Amassing over 500m in just over a month in August shows that DAU’s and TVL are on a steady increase for the new network. By adding BASE to our list of supported networks, not only are we able to tap into the expansive growing ecosystem of projects already available but we position ourselves to take full advantage of future growth by integrating the best LP’s on chain with Balancer, BaseSwap, Maverick, SushiSwap, Uniswap and AlienBase.

We didn’t just stop there, August also saw our deployment of our DEX aggregation services on Starknet, another L2 scaling solution for Ethereum which utilises zero-knowledge Starks or Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge to proof transactions. Our deployment saw us team up with JediSwap, MySwap, SithSwap and 10kSwap to offer the absolute best trading environment and value on Starknet.

Our goal of continuing to integrate the biggest and best sources of liquidity is never ending… with our focus to deliver the best trading experience regardless of chain, our aim is therefore to keep increasing our availability and pushing value back to the end users. As part of this process, supporting testnet environments is also an important step, like we did for Linea.

Scroll EVM is a new scaling solution built for developers, by developers. In August we officially launched support for the Scroll testnet, helping secure and build the network from the early stages, opening the door to enhanced user interaction in the future and potential airdrops for utilising and bolstering the testnet.

To continue focusing on expanding our availability and what we can offer users on Arbitrum, we joined forces with Furucombo and several other projects to launch the Arbitrum Degens campaign with over 5k in rewards!

Notable Mentions

ChainFlip and OpenOcean have gotten off to a good start this summer, made even more better by our awesome $FLIP whitelist campaign. ChainFlip provided OpenOcean cross-chain users and $OOE stakers the opportunity to earn whitelist status for their upcoming token sale, a highly anticipated affair.
With social identities in crypto and web3 on the rise, we thought it best to deploy the latest tech from SpaceID, social identity logins. With a SpaceID or ‘social login’, users are able to access OpenOcean with a simple unified login, a shared identity across the blockchain! We also took this partnership as an opportunity to launch our new SpaceID campaign where there's a $200 giftcard up for grabs!
